Indian sari silk ribbons, made and hand-dyed with colors specially chosen by Cat in Bag.
They are raw cut, meaning the fabric is "torn", they do not have regular hems and edges, but are frayed for a boho effect.
The ribbons are made mainly by women from Indian cooperatives, in areas considered particularly disadvantaged. By purchasing these ribbons you are therefore helping the female populations who produce them.
The ribbons are obtained by hand dyeing the sari fabric that is discarded from the factories. By purchasing them you therefore do not burden the ecosystem, but favor the rebirth of something that would otherwise increase the amount of waste.
We are therefore talking about ethical yarns, which do not burden Mother Earth.
Vivid colors, magical and full of soul.
Ribbons are perfect for all those creative projects, from costume jewelery to paintings, they are used for macramé, weaving and various artistic techniques that use yarn, the only limit is your imagination.
It is important to note that the total meters are made up of several ribbons sewn or knotted together, it is not a single ribbon. The length of the individual belts is variable, from 30/40 cm to over one meter, it is not possible to know in advance the length of the individual belts because it depends on the fabric that arrives and is treated from time to time.
The ribbons sometimes come very wrinkled, depends on the type of fabric and the dyeing process of the moment, they are often twisted in dyeing them to get the beautiful shades that you see on the tapes.
In case you want them smoother just use a normal iron, preferably steam and use a cloth between the fabric and the iron, as you would with a normal piece of clothing.
Given the particular processing done by hand and the fact that the fabrics are recycled, it is not possible to guarantee the width (which can vary from about 0,5 cm to even 3 or 4 cm) or the type of fabric that can vary from skein to skein. It is always Indian silk fabric, but the texture and thickness of the fabric may vary slightly from the photos.
Also resulting from recycled fabric are sometimes possible tears, small holes or stains of other colors that do not affect the use and, indeed, increase its uniqueness. In case you want to eliminate these imperfections just cut the tape and sew the ribbons again or join them with a small knot.
It is important to note that the images are indicative of the color, not the texture of the fabric, it is possible that not all tapes are made with "neutral" fabrics, without weft, but sometimes there may be ribbons dyed on fabrics with underlying weft or with small embroidery that may also vary in color from the original ribbon. This is to be understood not as a defect, but as a singularity that makes each ribbon unique and special.
We do our utmost to ensure that this does not happen, but it is not possible to ensure that it is not.
The colors of the ribbons are as similar as possible to those shown in the photo, but may vary depending on the dye at the time which, being handmade, will never be perfectly identical to that of the previous batch.
If you need many meters for a single project, contact us before purchasing, we will do everything we can because all the meters are from the same batch and are therefore as uniform as possible.
All these features make each tape unique and your designs always original and never the same to themselves.
We always try to make sure that the images that we show you are as faithful as possible to the real objects that will arrive at home, but are still possible that images may look different (color) due to many monitor or device resolutions.
This product is not a toy, it is not suitable for children under the age of 14.
